All C.O. jokes aside, “Mafia Music” is still one of the hardest records to drop in 2009. It’s also one of the most controversial. Just when the remnants of Ricky’s dispute with 50 was beginning to become a distant memory, another famous name now has a problem with the record, Floyd Mayweather. Questioning the true amount of the boxing champion’s wealth, Ross threw out the bar, “That Mayweather money lookin’ funny in the light.” Never one to bite his tounge, Floyd recently reminded the Triple C’s front man he hasn’t forgotten about the lyrical jab.
“I don’t have to take no shots at Rick Ross. I don’t think he’s making $20-$30 million every time he goes out there to perform. I got my own name, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. That’s original. With his rap career, I wish him nothing but the best.”
Traditionally, anyone taking shots at Ross have mentioned his law enforcement past. Add “Money” Mayweather to the list.
“[His] stats and credentials don’t rhyme. One minute he said he wasn’t a CO or cop, next minute he is,” Mayweather told AllHipHop.com. “He can learn how to get money from me. If he’s a cop and rapping about selling drugs, I guess he was a dirty cop! You know me, I’m not ducking and dodging no one, it’s not hard to find me. I’m in Miami all the time, Atlanta, everywhere.”
….
“Rap has truly changed. He was at my Hatton fight, cheering me on. I guess he got upset because I’m cool with 50 Cent. But like I said, if I need someone arrested I’ll call him.”
With all the bad press the sport has been receiving lately, boxing doesn’t need arguably it’s biggest name having disagreements with an entertainer. Part of me wants to say let Floyd and Kimbo fight this thing out and both parties can call it even from there. More importantly than Mayweather taking shots at Ross, I need Mayweather to start throwing verbal punches in Manny Pacquiao’s direction.
That’s what I’ll pay to see.
